Why Accessibility Matters at Sol Space: A Personal Reflection by a Mom of Two
When I think about accessibility, I don’t just think about ramps or wide doorways—though those matter too. I think about my two boys. I think about their unique needs, their growing minds and bodies, and the spaces where they feel safe, welcome, and seen. As a mom of two children with unique genetic codes, accessibility isn’t just a buzzword. It’s a lifeline. It’s how we show up for each other.
At Sol Space, accessibility is not an afterthought—it’s a foundation.
I co-founded this space with the dream of building something more than a yoga studio or a creative hub. I envisioned a place where moms could feel at ease, where kids could explore safely, and where all bodies and all stories had a place to land.
What Does Accessibility Look Like at Sol Space?
Classes for All Bodies: Every yoga instructor here is trained to offer multiple variations, cues, and props. Whether you’re healing from birth, navigating mobility differences, or just stepping on the mat for the first time, our goal is to meet you where you are.
Welcoming Care Spaces: Our Workshare + Care hours aren’t just childcare—they’re a community solution for families, especially for those of us whose children don’t always fit the typical mold. Our caregivers understand that every child is different, and that inclusion doesn’t mean asking a child to change to fit a space—it means shaping the space to fit the child.
Sensory Considerations: We think about lighting, sound, transitions, and emotional safety—because sensory regulation isn’t a bonus feature, it’s a daily need for many families, including mine.
Language and Culture: As a bilingual, multicultural family, I’ve seen how language can be a barrier to participation. That’s why we offer classes in both English and Spanish, and why we welcome people from all walks of life with warmth and understanding.
Accessibility Is Love in Action
As a special needs parent, I’ve felt the sting of being turned away, left out, or misunderstood in spaces that weren’t built with my children in mind. At Sol Space, we choose a different path.
We’re building a space where a mama breastfeeding her baby can stretch out on the mat next to someone healing from injury… where someone recovering from trauma can move with gentleness and choice… where a toddler with sensory needs can be met with patience, not frustration… where we don’t need to apologize for who we are or how we move through the world.
Because when we make space for all, we all rise.
Sol Space exists because community should be for everyone. Not just the flexible. Not just the neurotypical. Not just the experienced. For everyone.
And that includes my children. And yours. And you.
